Northwest Honda Dealers' 2nd Annual $10,000 School Giveaway Continues

PORTLAND, Ore. - April 3, 2019 - PRLog -- Your local Northwest Honda Dealers Association (NWHDA) remains dedicated to helping deserving schools in the area through its "School is Better Thanks to Your Local NW Honda Dealer Program." During the 2018-2019 school year, the Northwest Honda Dealers Association (NWHDA) will be awarding $1,000 monthly to a local school of their choice.

Since many districts have been forced to make deep cutbacks in both teaching positions and curriculum, this donation will allow schools to purchase needed supplies, equipment, and fund important programs. Everyone in the NW Honda Dealers family is committed to supporting local schools, families, and to building bridges in the local community.

Sumpter Elementary is the sixth of ten schools to be recognized for its commitment to the next generation. Named after Mabel P. Sumpter, a long-time teacher in the district, the school ranks in the top one-third of best public elementary schools in the state and in the top 30 percent of all Oregon schools for students' overall test scores in both math and reading proficiency.

"We will use these funds to continue the teaching legacy of Mabel P. Sumpter," Principal Janet Prats explained. "Our students benefit by having a teacher advocating for them. Teacher advocates empower and listen to their students. They give advice and encouragement. Students know that they have someone who believes in them and who is there for them." This is one reason Sumpter Elementary students perform above-average on state tests and show above-average year-over-year academic improvement.

Matt Perry, general manager of Honda of Salem, will be presenting the $1,000 check to Prats at an all-staff meeting in the school's library on Thursday, April 4 at 4 p.m.

"We are so pleased to be able to help Sumpter Elementary, a school which focuses on creating long-term relationships with its students," said Perry. "At Honda of Salem, our goal is to build partnerships with our customers, so it's a perfect match."
