Local senior rides shotgun with Reno PD
Ageless Dreams program at Summit Estates Senior Living grants wishes

The people of Reno might have seen or even heard Theresa's dream coming true as she sat shotgun in the Reno police car with Office Travis Warren, a 14-plus year police veteran, who turned control of the sirens and lights to Theresa as they drove through the city.
"You know, ever since I was a little kid I always wanted to ride in a police car with the lights and sirens going," Theresa told Teri Gooch, Summit Estates' activities director. "She was a little nervous and needed some coaxing," said Gooch, who sat in the back seat, "but she thought it was so cool."
Theresa toured the Reno Police Department, including the interrogation and briefing rooms, met the fine men and women in blue, and spent time behind bars in the historic section of the jail. The little army men, dinosaurs and monkeys hanging from the rafters served its purpose, making Theresa and others visiting the police department, chuckle, and she was intrigued by the photo of the gun believed to be Baby Face Nelson's that was found in the Truckee River. After the tour and drive-along, Warren and Theresa picked up burgers from In-N-Out Burger and headed back to Summit Estates for lunch.
"We loved having Theresa here," said Warren. "She has such a great sense of humor. Having people visit us who are happy and smiling and like to joke around gives us an escape from what we do day in and day out."
"Officer Warren made this the best day for Theresa," said Gooch. "We rely on the generosity of people who live and work in the Reno community to help make wishes come true in our Ageless Dreams program. Kudos to the Reno Police Department for making Theresa's wish come true."
Through the Ageless Dreams program, Summit Estates has made wishes come true for countless residents. Last month, the Ageless Dreams program created a book filled with a resident's short stories, gave copies to family members and placed one in the library at Summit Estates. Other Ageless Dreams include residents flying in an open cockpit Stearman biplane and attending a Reno Aces ballgame.
