-- Greek Orthodox Easter is always later than Easter in the UK; this year Good Friday falls on 26 April, when spring starts to beckon the start of summer; the perfect time to stay on Paxos without the crowds and jumpers.Ionian Villas has a wealth of choice of places to stay and witness the Greek Easter including the following…
Villa Avra (https://ionian-
avra.aspx) in the sleepy little port of Lakka on the east coast, is the perfect place to witness the villagers celebrate with a week of festivities, culminating in a candlelit gaggle on the waterfront with fireworks and church bells at midnight to mark the Resurrection. The villa stands above Lakka Bay and is just a 10-minute walk away from the waterfront. Sleeping five people, the villa's front terrace is a great spot to watch the fireworks or guests can opt to be part of the gaggle and watch the priests emerge from the village church just before midnight. A week's stay from 22 April costs £850, or £170 pp when fully occupied.
) is a two-bedroomed villa (sleeps five) located in Gaios, the capital village of the island. The pretty garden has a BBQ and a large Jacuzzi with a 'swim jet'. Gaios is intimate and colourful, its main square has a waterfront which continues around the sheltered harbour and is lined with pastel-coloured Venetian houses, small bars and tavernas. The atmosphere is generally sleepy, with activity focussed around the arrival of yachts, local fishing boats and small hire boats – an enjoyable theatre viewed from a shaded waterfront bar. A week's stay from 22 April costs £850 or £170 pp, when full occupied by five people.
Another option for Greek Easter is Elissa (http://ionian-villas.co.uk/villa/paxos/elissa.aspx
) on Paxos. A narrow car track leads from Lakka, up a hillside of olive groves towards the lighthouse on the west coast; half a kilometre up this track are the private grounds of Elissa. The villa, which sleeps six people, has a private pool and is a ten-minute walk from the village with its tavernas, shops and bakery. It is also possible to hire boats to explore the coast. The villa is a five-minute walk from the beach and a week's stay in April costs £850 or around £142 per person when fully occupied by six people.
Flights and transfers not included. The best option for getting to Paxos is an Easyjet flight via Corfu and boat transfers (hydrofoil or speed boat).
