LEWES, Del. - March 26, 2019 - PRLog -- Rating agency Moody recently downgraded Oman's credit rating to junk status. It means we could expect an interest rate hike which naturally increase cost of debt and capital. This would further slow down business activities, increase the borrowing costs for corporates and the government and ultimately puts pressure on consumers.

Oman, officially called the Sultanate of Oman, is an Arab state in southwest Asia on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It has a strategically important position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf. It is bordered by the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest and also shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan.

Oman had estimated population of 3.957 million in the year 2016 and expected to reach 4.769 million by 2022, which is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.14%.

Oman's real gross domestic product (GDP) was around OMR 28.012 billions in 2016 whereas the nominal GDP was OMR 24.289 billions. This resulted in GDP deflator 86.709. Per capita GDP was estimated at USD 15963.98 whereas purchasing power parity (PPP) based per capita GDP was estimated to be at USD 46697.96.

In 2016, Omani government's revenue was OMR 7.657 billions whereas the expenditure was OMR 12.65 billions. This resulted Omani government's net lending / borrowing negative at OMR 4.993 billion in 2016 indicating that enough financial resources were not made available by the government to boost economic growth.

The current account balance for Oman was estimated to be negative at USD 9.783 billions for the year 2016 and is expected to decline at a CAGR of 8.02% and reach USD 6.02 by 2022. This negative current account balance indicates the Oman is a net borrower from the whole world.
