BOCA RATON, Fla. - March 26, 2019 - PRLog -- The Association of Women in Communications South Florida Chapter, along with nationwide chapters celebrates the organization's 110 years of women coming together, equality, liberty of speech and general inclusion toward women empowerment.

This movement has stood the test of time and grown even stronger. Women together are powerful, not just as a trending topic, but as a force capable of change. This was proven by the 7 students who wanted to be their own heroes back in 1909.

Their inclusion oriented focus has laid the groundwork for equal opportunity in a gender biased employment environment. The University of Washington in Seattle was the epicenter of this movement for a group of students enrolled in the college's new journalism program. It's hard to imagine a time where without communications with information accessible to everybody. Theta Sigma Phi was the name provided to this movement that would later change to Women in Communications in 1972. That same year it expanded to include male membership. With over 72 chapters nationwide, this notable effort has included the participation of members such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Barbara Walters, Rita Cosby, among many others.

Being able to assist different sectors throughout the country has allowed the association to build a strong bond with communities. The South Florida Chapter focuses on providing a platform that empowers women through education, networking, and mentorship within colleagues and members to increase professional achievements and support entrepreneurs and local businesses.

"The Association for Women in Communications helps women become dominant factors or even leaders in the ever fluctuating communications industry." ~ Tonya Scholz, President of The Association for Women in Communications South FL Chapter.
