Armed Forces Veteran Dedicates New Career to Aid Hungry Children in Rural Communities

Millions of children across the world have little or nothing to eat on a daily basis. Sadly, well-rounded regular meals are not part of their every day lives. One woman is aiming to change this through her incredible foundation, The Angel Project.

SAN DIEGO - March 20, 2019 - PRLog -- While on a trip pursuing a prospective business venture in Valle de Guadalupe, an area of Ensenada in Baja California, Mexico, U.S. Veteran and The Angel Project founder, Denika Tamayo was invited by a local resident to visit the Enrique C. Rebsamen elementary school. Denika's interest was piqued when upon meeting this woman she told her that several times a week she would purchase, deliver and prepare food for the school, often times using her own money to do so.

Denika observed dire conditions during her visit to the school. She was overwhelmed with emotion after having been told that nearly 95% of the families in this community cannot afford to feed their children breakfast. In many cases, folks are also unable to send their young ones to school with a lunch for the day. The more time Denika spent with these special kids, she quickly realized just how little nutritional and educational resources were available to them and how much their personal growth and learning were at risk because of it.

Emboldened by her military training and desire to create a lasting-impact in her new path in life, Denika made a resolve to establish an initiative that would not only address child hunger, but create a sustainable system that could be implemented anywhere in the world where these needs exist. From this brief yet profound encounter, The Angel Project was born.

This grassroots organization has created a campaign-based approach calling communities, organizations and businesses into action, to unite and come together in aid of the forgotten children in rural and indigenous communities across the world. Denika is hard at work seeking opportunity to educate people on the critical crisis of childhood hunger and poverty.

The Angel Project is a recent recipient of Fiscal Sponsorship from North County San Diego based non-profit organization The Swell Collective. "We are grateful for the tremendous work Denika and her organization are doing. Working to keep prominent issues such as this in the spotlight and digging in to the vast array of tasks required to tackle them is arduous. The Swell Collective's own mission aligns wonderfully with that of The Angel Project and we are appreciative to have the opportunity to support Denika on her journey" says Swell Collective co-founder and CFO, Mica Hashimoto.

Denika was recently invited to attend the 2019 UNA-USA Global Engagement Summit in February where 1,800 Americans convened at UN Headquarters in New York City to confront big global challenges and support the United Nations' vital work. This is the first platform of many that The Angel Project will utilize to voice their call to our communities.
