Children's Book Helps Police Build Trust in Community

Making It Better In Our Community - Effect Change, Inspire Children and Connect Communities
BENICIA, Calif. - March 20, 2019 - PRLog -- Strong relationships based on mutual trust between police agencies and the communities they serve are critical to maintaining public safety. Police officials rely on the cooperation of community members to provide information about crime in their neighborhoods and to work with the police to develop solutions. At the same time, community members' trust in the police depends on whether they believe that police actions reflect community values and incorporate the principles of justice. In the wake of recent incidents involving police use of force or police misconduct, the legitimacy of law enforcement has been called into question and community trust has worn thin, especially in communities of color.

The goal of Making It Better In Our Community is to encourage police departments to build programs that improve community relationships by connecting with youth through books.

In an effort to be more visible in the community, law enforcement is encouraged to carry books with them to hand out to kids as well as participate in community book readings at schools, libraries and other community gathering places.
