ALBANY, N.Y. - March 19, 2019 - PRLog -- Healthy Schools Network Statement on EPA's Proposed Program
Healthy Schools Network welcomes the news that the President's FY 2020 funding request for the EPA includes as a priority a $50M Healthy Schools Program (excerpts below) in the agency Core Mission.
Said the Network's executive Claire L. Barnett, "The Network and its national partners have been in communications with EPA, including Administrator Andrew Wheeler, who expressed interest in a school and child health focused initiative. We are encouraged to see that reflected in the budget proposal as one of the Administrator's priorities."
She added, "We first called on the Trump Transition Team for a School and Child Health Initiative, the followed up with a call for this to be funded at $1/child enrolled in schools and in childcare, or $65 Million over EPA's FY 2016 budget."
US EPA announced it on Monday, March 11th as part of the President's Budget for FY 2020.
It is exciting to see this new proposal - a dedicated Healthy Schools Program -- called out as part of the EPA core mission. Given proposed agency-wide cuts to EPA, we are looking forward to more detail from EPA on how such an innovative cross-media program would be operated effectively and efficiently.
