Apellix Announces Continuation Patent Application Filed for Software Guidance of Drones

The Patent application contains 29 claims for software that controls tethered and non-tethered drones and robots including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to perform tasks to a structure or object during flight such as cleaning, coating/painting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - March 19, 2019 - PRLog -- Apellix the safety partner for the technological revolution, has filed a continuance for US Patent 9,611,038 B2 "Mobile computing device-based guidance navigation and control for unmanned aerial vehicles and robotic systems"

Apellix has five US patents (three fully granted, and two pending), covering the various aspects of unmanned aerial vehicles performing elevated work, ground-based control and power systems, tether and umbilical systems, and flight control software. We have also developed proprietary power supplies and sensor integration hardware.

Apellix has created a software-controlled aerial robot (drone) that allows them to fly, under full computer control, up to structures such as elevated water tanks, silos, chimneys, ships and bridges where their robotic arm makes contact with the surface thus allowing a sensor to test the integrity of the structure. This is done at a fraction of the cost of traditional operators, saving roughly 20x on labor and eliminating scaffolding or cranes while keeping workers safely on the ground. Apellix also performs testing without taking the asset out of service and can avoid closing a bridge, shutting down a refinery or taking a supertanker out of service to perform necessary maintenance.

Apellix's precision-controlled aerial robotics systems are based on its patented software platform that utilizes tethered and untethered drones to move workers from harm's way. Other additional uses of the Apellix platform - in addition to contact-based non-destructive testing - include window washing on skyscrapers, windmill blade cleaning, spray painting, graffiti removal, and the spraying of toxic chemicals. The potential applications of the Apellix system are almost endless.
