VANCEBURG, Ky. - March 11, 2019 - PRLog -- General contractor Trace Creek Construction has started work on improvements to Jenkins Independent schools. The $2 million project encompasses renovations to Jenkins Middle School, Jenkins High School and Burdine Elementary. Construction is expected to be complete at the beginning of August, just before the new school year starts. The project will be managed by Trace Creek Project Manager Clay Ratliff and Superintendent Jeremy McGlone.

Architecture firm alt32 + Cox designed the improvements, with an eye on modernizing the facilities to more closely meet the needs of current and future students.

"We're excited to begin construction on this important project for Jenkins Independent schools," said David West, President of Trace Creek Construction. "We know that the improvements we are making today will enhance the lives of our students for decades to come."

The changes will be extensive. From the outside, the most noticeable changes will be the new marquee signs at the entrance to the high school and middle school. Improvements to both locations also include brand new parking lots and sidewalks, as well as flagpoles, new exterior doors with access control, windows and new exterior store front entrances.

Inside, both the middle school and high school will receive renovated stages, new interior floors and finishes in locker rooms and restrooms, new hallway floors, paint in the main corridors and a security vestibule at the main entrance. School spirit graphics applied inside the building will add to the sense of place and enhance school spirit.

Burdine Elementary will also be upgraded with a new security vestibule, renovated restroom, new exterior doors with access control and hardware, and school spirit graphics. All schools will receive new mechanical, electrical and plumbing as part of this project.

Jenkins Independent Schools Superintendent Mike Genton is glad to see construction begin. "This building project is overdue for our school district and community. We are extremely excited for this project as it will make our buildings safer and more modern." Genton went on to say that "this is the biggest thing to happen to our district in decades. We can't wait to see the excitement this project brings to our students, staff, and community."
