Meet the 14 Developmentally Disabled Adults Who Authored and Illustrated Book
Newly Released Book Features Collection of Short Stories, Poems, Haikus and Artwork by Residents of JARC Florida Under Guidance of Comic Book Artist & Author Glaister "SILVERBACK" Ormsby
"Silverback & Friends Presents: Tales from the City of JARC" is a collection of short stories, poems, haikus and artwork completed over a ten-week period by 14 JARC clients with the assistance of Ormsby and JARC FL Activities Coordinator Constonsa Alexander. According to Ormsby, "the book showcases stories and creativity about a place full of love and laughter where all are welcome."
Ormsby first met the JARC residents four years ago at Coral Springs Comic Con where he was showcasing his work. Since then, he has been visiting the West Boca JARC campus weekly to teach classes on short stories, comic book pages, drawing and more. "The residents kept asking for more opportunities to share their work, and since I have a publishing company, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to work together and publish a book," Ormsby added. "This book shows the whole world that yes, they can. If you give them the opportunity and assist them just a little, they can do anything."
