Announcing the Release of Long Term Acute Care Coding for 2019

Online, self-paced instruction on the complexity of LTAC coding

BEDFORD, Mass. - March 6, 2019 - PRLog -- Long Term Acute Care Coding, now fully updated for 2019, provides a clear and straightforward approach to ICD-10 coding of diagnoses and procedures for conditions commonly seen in the LTAC hospital setting. Authored by the coding professionals at Barry Libman Inc, a leading provider of coding and auditing services for the LTAC hospital setting, this course addresses the challenges facing the LTAC coder.

"LTAC is a unique care setting:  it is not acute care; it is not rehab; and it is not skilled nursing. The rules governing the coding of LTAC stays are also unique," according to Barry Libman, MS, RHIA, CDIP, CCS, President of Libman Education and co-author of Long Term Acute Care Coding. "Significant changes for 2019 include the coding of post-operative wound infections and sepsis.  If your coders are not up-to-date on these changes, your coding may be incomplete or inaccurate and your reimbursement may not be appropriate."

Long Term Acute Care hospitals serve patients requiring complex medical management.  The coding of these hospital stays reflects that complexity.  This online and self-paced course is designed to build upon a coder's knowledge of ICD-10 and is organized into three concise lessons:

- LTAC disease process issues such as hypertension, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis, and encephalopathy.
- Complex coding issues commonly seen in the LTAC setting such as aftercare, 7th character assignment, pressure ulcers, and stroke with sequelae.
- Procedures performed within the LTAC as well as those performed at an outside facility when the patient is absent from the LTAC fewer than three midnights.
