Alive Center and Fry Family YMCA Collaborate on Teen Space
By: Alive Center NFP
The Alive Center and the Y recognize the power teenagers hold to represent and shape the community. With a focus on youth and teens, both organizations believe in inclusive spaces and value the inherent worth of each and every individual.
"At the Y we are committed to building partnerships and collaborating with others to build a stronger community. We look forward to working with the Alive Center to provide teens a safe place where they have opportunities to discover who they are and what they can achieve." said R.J. Bartels, YMCA Executive Director.
The Alive Center's free drop-in hours provide unique programming for local teens to come together to learn, create, and socialize in a safe, welcoming, supervised environment. During the critical hours after school and over summer vacation, Alive's program provides teens with free mentoring, classes and workshops on a variety of topics such as leadership, career development, healthy cooking, art and music: drug prevention and awareness; anti-bullying and cyber safety information;
"I am excited to see two of Naperville's premier youth organizations come together to serve our youth in an even stronger way. The synergy of these two organizations coming together is a clear example of where 1 + 1 = 3," said Tom Miers, Naperville Bank and Trust President, Y Board Member and longtime community leader.
The Alive @ Fry Drop-in program is free of charge and available to all 6th – 12th graders. Parents can pre-register their teens at: https://alivecenter.recdesk.com/
Alive Center CEO Kandice Henning says that "Parents on the south side of Naperville have been asking for an Alive Center for years. We are really excited to team with the Fry Family YMCA to bring our empowering Teen-Led, Teen-DrivenTM programs to teens in south Naperville."
