Sounds of Persia: Traditional music from Iran for santur and strings
Dariush Saghafi, world's master of the Persian instrument "santur" comes to Connecticut with Iranian composer Reza Vali.
By: Cuatro Puntos
Get lost in a soundscape foreign from Western musical traditions as Dr. Saghafi performs a traditional improvised solo on santur, then hear two traditions merge as the Cuatro Puntos Resident Musicians (a string quartet) and Saghafi perform Reza Vali's compositions based on traditional Persian music. Born and educated in Iran, Dr. Dariush Saghafi is the considered one of the world's leading masters of the santur (a plucked, dulcimer instrument). Reza Vali, also born and raised in Iran, resides in Pittsburgh and teaches composition at Carnegie Mellon University.
