Follow on Google News | Spending drops: but it's a lack of time and energy that's killing British gardensBy: Blooming Artificial New survey data from Blooming Artificial has found that it's time and energy which are a major barrier for many Brits, who are simply too busy for the upkeep required on things like flowerbeds and planters. More than 2,000 people around the UK answered questions on garden spending and the obstacles they face. Results show that: • 66% of people in the UK have spent £500 or less on their gardens in the last three years combined, a sharp decline from reports in 2015 and 2016 suggesting that typical spend was around £345 to £587 per year • 86% of people say that not having enough time or energy is a key barrier to maintaining a garden, with 45% of respondents citing this as their biggest obstacle. • 41% said that time, energy and money come joint first as the biggest barriers, with a further 14% saying that it's cost alone that gets in their way. "It will be interesting to see how the 'typical' British garden continues to change." Said Blooming Artificial's Business Development Manager, Alick Burnett. "A lack of time and energy doesn't necessarily have to mean paving slabs – we're seeing a growth in the number of people turning to faux outdoor plants in place of the real thing, which can be an easy solution for those who are time-poor." The results also look at generational divides in garden spending, and which UK regions are the most and least expensive for garden updates – visit the report at (https://www.bloomingartificial.co.uk/ Note to writers and editors: For high-res photos, quotes and interviews or shareable versions of the data infographics, please email tabby@further.co.uk End
