Nike, Bekindr, and Life Time Events Collaborate to Bring Teen Zone Athletes to the Fitbit Tropical 5KYouthful Athletes Cross the Finish Line Leaving a Lasting Impression
By: Bekindr Kenneth McKenzie, Recreation Leader, and Manuela Chong, staff member, at the Teen Zone, trained the runners and brought them to the 5K. The Teen Zone Program provides homework assistance, sports, and entertainment giving the youths a safe supervised place to hang out with friends, thus helping the teens overcome any challenges. McKenzie is also a part-time athlete at Nike Town Miami and a role model. Faye Goldin coordinated the walk/run group at Nike. "Working the teens was a great experience. The training process was tough. Many hadn't run long distances regularly. Their feeling of accomplishment crossing the finish line and their expression of joy made it clear that they want to be involved in more 5Ks," commented McKenzie. The athletes, Jason Avila,15, Andrew Crichlow, 15, Kendrick King,13, Wesley Lestage, 15, Jeremy Louissaint,15 and Michael Pichardo,15 persevered through inclement weather until they triumphantly crossed the finish line. It was a day they'll never forget. "I really enjoyed running with my friends, meeting new people…especially an Olympic athlete, and having a good meal after the race," stated Avila. In the spirit of community building, Nicole Bostick, Senior Brand Marketing Manager for Life Time, organizer of numerous running events, provided complimentary registration for the Teen Zone athletes. The City of Miami Beach Commission for Women and Eva Ritvo, MD donated breakfast for the teens following the race. Dr. Ritvo is the founder of the Bekindr Global Initiative and author of Bekindr: The Transformative Power of Kindness. Taking the triumphant teens for a celebratory post marathon meal, Dr. Ritvo recalled, "We wanted to support the teens by providing them with a memorable, life-changing experience. Kindness begets kindness. Their youthful enthusiasm was contagious. Now they've become Bekindr Global Ambassadors. They'll share their memories with their community and families. Kindness was overflowing. What could be more hopeful?" http://Bekindr.com Contact Patrice Samara ***@triumphnewyork.com Photos: https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ https://www.prlog.org/ End
