OdySea Aquarium Awarded 2018 Sea TREK Operator of the Year
Sea TREK helmet diving company announces annual award to its top operator
By: Sea TREK
OdySea's Sea TREK experience enables participants ages 9 and older, to walk and breathe underwater in a 200,000-gallon exhibit teeming with marine life. Cow nose stingrays, a black spotted stingray, honeycomb stingray, zebra sharks, and a beautiful Maori wrasse are just some of the unique animals that guests encounter during the TREK.
The tour consistently receives 5-star ratings online and is highly recommended by adults, children and seniors alike, regardless of skill, fitness or ability. One Yelp reviewer shares, "the Sea TREK experience is an amazing way for non-scuba divers to explore fish and stingrays…" While another reviewer says, "Sea TREK was really awesome… being underwater with the stingrays, shark and fish was way cool. My 70-year-old parents did it, too!"
All experiences are conducted by certified, insured and highly knowledgeable safety divers, whose professionalism, care and attention to detail are often the highlights of the tour. TripAdvisor reviewer Miriam shares, "the staff was very patient… They are attentive and right there with you."
OdySea's Sea TREK staff works year-round to enhance the tour and create a memorable experience for their guests. During Halloween, the team uniquely decorated each Sea TREK helmet as a colorful creature and added fun, seasonal accents to the facilities and water entry area. Throughout Christmas, or "Fishmas", Sea TREK Santa made his grand appearance, along with Sea TREK Elf Guides. And, mermaids frequently entertain TREKKERs in the aquarium.
OdySea has a special Conservation Committee that is responsible for organizing cleanup projects, school programs and community outreach events. Every January, OdySea hosts a conservation expo that helps educate the community about proactive efforts to conserve the environment. In March 2018, OdySea earned the prestigious AZA (Association of Zoos & Aquariums) accreditation, recognizing the facility as a leader in animal care and welfare, conservation, education and professional excellence.
Last fall, the aquarium established a partnership with a non-profit organization that supports combat-wounded military service members, called Wings for Warriors, to offer Sea TREK helmet diving experiences. Retired soldier Stephen Martin was one of the first individuals to participate. Stephen lost both of his legs due to injuries sustained from a detonated explosive in Afghanistan. "Sometimes work and life gets in the way and you don't get to do things like [Sea TREK] for fun... so it was a good time," shares Stephen. "The hardest part is walking on uneven ground. Because I don't have ankles, it can be challenging to walk, but this was easy...it's never going to be the same, but it's still fun!"
As part of the Sea TREK Operator of the Year Award, OdySea will receive an engraved award, certificate, and digital insignia for use on their website and marketing materials.
