United Premier Soccer League Announces Executive Advisory Board
U.S. Soccer Hall of Famer Paul Caligiuri Among Six Selected to Advisory Board
The UPSL Executive Advisory Board will have its first session to coincide with the U.S. Soccer Annual General Meeting hosted by the Arizona State Soccer Association at the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Resort at McCormick Ranch from Feb. 14-17, 2019.
Paul Caligiuri, currently the Head Coach and Technical Director of Orange County FC, is among six selected for the UPSL Executive Advisory Board.
Joining Caligiuri are Derek Barraza, Bill Cameron, d'Alary Dalton,Yan Skwara and Ziad Tleimat.
United Premier Soccer League Executive Director Derek Barraza said, "UPSL is experiencing tremendous growth. Our commitment to player, coach, club, and referee development requires we work strategically and expand our leadership team. In conducting our search we sought to add directors with skills that would strengthen our ability to serve UPSL members into the future. Joining us are a successful technology entrepreneur, a U.S. Soccer 'A' licensed coaching director, and a Sports Technology industry leader with a background in Statistical Analysis. We are very pleased to welcome this highly qualified group with a passion to 'Grow the Game' to our Executive Advisory Board."
Paul Caligiuri, 54, had a professional playing career spanning 16 years in the United States and Germany, with the midfielder and defender earning 110 caps and scoring five goals for the U.S. National Team. A native of Southern California, Mr. Caligiuri starred at UCLA before going on to an illustrious professional career that included appearances at the 1990 and 1994 World Cups.
Derek Barraza, the UPSL's Executive Director, will Chair the Executive Advisory Board. Mr. Barraza, 56, served four years as California State Soccer Association - South (Cal South) President (2014-'18), and 10 years prior in service on the Cal South board. A native of Southern California, Mr. Barraza also served as chair of U.S. Youth Soccer's Strategic Advisory Group among his numerous roles with U.S. Soccer, U.S. Youth Soccer Association, and U.S. Adult Soccer Association throughout the years.
Bill Cameron has been involved with youth soccer since the mid-1990s. Starting as a soccer coach for his son's recreational kindergarten team, it wasn't long before Mr. Cameron became a club board member and started a college showcase that has become one of the best attended in the country. Mr. Cameron joined GotSoccer in 2004 and has worked extensively with hundreds of clubs, dozens of State Associations, and National Affiliates of U.S. Soccer. In 2012, Mr. Cameron began to survey the youth soccer market and now has the largest database of parent preferences on youth soccer in the nation.
d'Alary Dalton, Ed.D, is a sports-based youth development professional and the Founder and Executive Director of Sol Soccer Club. Ms. Dalton holds a USSF 'A' coaching license and a United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, and has been a soccer coach and director for more than 25 years from youth to high school, collegiate and Olympic Development Programs.
Yan Skwara is Commissioner of the United Premier Soccer League and President of L.A. Wolves FC. Mr. Skwara played professionally in Germany and in the United States coupled with a 10-year business career. A native of Los Angeles, Mr. Skwara has been the UPSL Commissioner since 2014, providing the vision required from the leader of the fastest-growing Pro Development league in North America.
Zaid Tleimat is founder and CEO of Zimcode, producers of TeamRunner, FanRunner and EasyTeamTrip, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars for youth and amateur teams. Mr. Tleimat, a San Francisco/Bay Area resident, has more than 30 years of soccer experience including playing for the U17 Syrian national team and coaching at various levels. Additionally Mr. Tleimat has over 25 years of experience in strategic planning, business operations, software development and information technology.
The UPSL Executive Advisory Board will meet quarterly to consider UPSL strategic direction, governing policies, and create initiatives to improve Pro Development soccer environments and opportunities around the country.
United Premier Soccer League
The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. UPSL is the fastest growing Pro Development League in the USA, with 400-plus teams targeted for 2019 Spring Season. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining either UPSL Pro Premier Division or Championship Division minimum standards.
UPSL teams are all eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the leagues affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
