Global Kids Youth Leaders Talk Back on Japan and Poland Trips

NEW YORK - Jan. 28, 2019 - PRLog -- New York, NY - - Two Global Kids students from John Adams High School (QNS) will discuss their respective service-learning trips and experiences to Japan and Poland from last year in an interactive panel presentation. The event will take place at John Adams High School in Ozone Park, NY from 2:30pm – 4:30pm. Coverage will be chronicled on Global Kids' social media channels using the hashtag #GKLeadersJPNPL and a full recording will be uploaded on our official YouTube page at a later date.

Global Kids Leader Osamuyimen Omorogbe, 16, traveled to Fukushima, Japan along with eight other students in August 2018. She met with industry experts to learn and analyze the events related to the tsunami, the Great Japan Earthquake, and subsequent nuclear power disaster. She also interacted with the youth from Futabi Mirai School who are engaged in efforts to changing perceptions since the disaster.

Global Kids Leader Josiah Dunn, 16, returned last month from Katowice, Poland after participating in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24). He, alongside three students, attended various COP24 workshops and exhibitions in partnership with Peace Boat. The group also held climate change workshops about water pollution at two local Polish high schools and joined numerous environmental organizations and activists at a climate march.

"Traveling abroad is a transformative experience and our young people use the opportunity with Global Kids to learn about and address critical issues facing our world," says Evie Hantzopoulos, Executive Director of Global Kids. "Josiah and Osam will continue to share what they learned with their peers, as well as organize around environmental sustainability, climate change, and the importance of being an active global citizen."
