Donald E. Godwin Named 2019 Distinguished Alumnus by the University of North Carolina Wilmington

DALLAS - Jan. 24, 2019 - PRLog -- Godwin Bowman PC, is proud to announce that Chairman & CEO, Donald E. Godwin, has been named the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year for 2019 by the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). Mr. Godwin earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1969, and has been an active supporter of the school for many years.

Mr. Godwin will be recognized at the UNCW Alumni Awards Reception on February 1, 2019. Inaugurated in 1976, the UNCW Distinguished Alumnus award has honored the outstanding achievements of such UNCW grads as Buffalo Bills General Manager, Brandon Beane; the CEO of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, Caroline Reda; Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and many more outstanding former students of the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

One of the most widely respected and highly honored attorneys in the United States, Mr. Godwin is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Following his tenure at UNCW, he received an M.S. in Accounting from the University of Memphis in 1970, and his Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 1973. Reflecting the standard of long-term excellence established in his legal practice, he has been named one of the "50 Lions of the Texas Bar" by Texas Lawbook, honoring 50 of the most influential senior attorneys in Texas; recognized since 2014 by Chambers USA in the area of General Commercial Litigation, honored by selection on the list of The Best Lawyers in America since 2012 in the area of Commercial Litigation, acknowledged regularly as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Texas by Thomson Reuters, and has recently been named for the fourth consecutive year to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America.

Beyond Distinguished Alumnus honors from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Mr. Godwin is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award for Private Practice from the SMU Dedman School of Law, been named as Outstanding Alumnus of the Fogelman School of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis, and has been inducted into the Fogelman School Hall of Fame.
