NATP releases tax industry feelings toward upcoming filing season

No. 1 association for tax professionals surveys members to determine industry trends
By: NATP
APPLETON, Wis. - Jan. 24, 2019 - PRLog -- With tax season quickly approaching, the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) recently surveyed its members to determine their overall confidence in serving their clients under the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

"This data is useful to all tax professionals, but especially those who are in a practice by themselves," Jennifer Van Elzen, NATP director of member relations and analytics, said.

"We thought the responses relating to the questions about the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) in an earlier survey were especially interesting, so much so that we followed up with more questions in another survey," Van Elzen said. "We've created an easy-to-read graphic giving specifics on these findings. We learned that tax professionals are looking to expand their services beyond basic tax preparation include offering tax consulting, tax examination and tax planning, according to the survey results." In addition, Van Elzen said the survey responses showed there is uncertainty about what tax professionals are expecting in terms of the TCJA.

"We noticed there is more anxiety than anything," Van Elzen said. "Tax law, particularly the new Sec. 199A Business Income Deduction and last-minute guidance, is escalating concern as well as the general increased stress of the season and an increased workload for their staff."

2,258 NATP members responded to the survey, which equals a 15-percent response rate. Question topics included practice size, work history and feelings toward the upcoming tax season.
