DTC Offers New Programs & Partnerships To Train Detroit Residents For In Demand Careers

From projects and ground breaking at sites like the Michigan Central Station renovation to the Joe Louis Greenway, the prospects of jobs has never been greater in the Detroit skilled labor workforce, and DTC aims to train Detroiters to fill them.

DETROIT - Jan. 16, 2019 - PRLog -- The Detroit Training Center kicked off 2019 with new programs geared towards training in masonry, irrigation technician, and crane operation to supplement the already successful programming. They recently added a welding MIG program to provide a skilled laborers who can work on new projects in Detroit such as the Bedrock Hudson site and the new Gordie Howe International Bridge to Canada. With a 44% placement percentage just two weeks after the 1st cohort graduation, and graduates making $15-$18 starting hourly salaries, DTC is looking to expand programming to impact the larger skilled labor job market in Detroit.

The CEO of DTC, Patrick Beal, believes that creating a workforce strong and linked to building careers starts with the right training. "There are literally jobs going unfilled for Detroiters," Beal said. "We're designed to solve that gap. We're really expecting that to be a problem we can solve."

Atlantic Impact and the Detroit Training Center also hope to bridge the gap between understanding the many options of higher education to Detroit high schoolers who may feel the traditional four year college track isn't right for them. The "Explore Skilled Trades" program starting in February of 2019 aims to take recent high school grads and high school juniors and seniors on job site tours, participate in apprenticeship programs, and they'll earn an OSHA 10 and First Aid certification.

Most programming for the Detroit Training Center has the opportunity for funding through funding assistance, which allows Detroit residents the accessibility needed to obtain careers that will not only benefit them, but also their communities.  DTC hopes that by building careers, Detroit will build a future in creating a strong foundation for itself.
