The GroovaLottos Keeping Things Phunky In The New Year

BOSTON - Jan. 10, 2019 - PRLog -- At a rehearsal of the Mashpee Middle School Jazz Band, Mwalim -who is in the role of conductor- stops the band when they hit a part where the is a recurring 'kink' in the groove. He has the young musicians put their instruments down and tells them to sing their parts. "I can't sing," complained one of the students. "If you can talk, you can sing," replied Mwalim as he counted them into the part at measure 33. Awkwardly, they sang their parts. He made them do it two more times, then had them pick up their instruments and play the section. They got it!

Song Keepers, LTD introduced the "Make It Funky" program to the Mashpee Public Schools back in 2015 as one of the several music mentoring projects of the organization that was co-founded by members of The GroovaLottos and other music and media artists in the community.

With six Grammy nominations under their belt, 2019 will prove to be a year of continued growth as the band's gig and tour calendar comes together, the members keep active with mentoring, rehearsals, community presentations, and working on material for their follow-up album.

The GroovaLottos will be performing at Beatnik's in Worcester on January 25th and the Cotuit Center for the Arts on February 16th.
