Natural Plant Based Botanical Dyes used in Hand Dying Yarn
- Jan. 8, 2019
-- The yarn and fabric are dyed by hand using natural plant extract dyes on site at our FelinFach Mill. The recipes include traditional and natural dye stuff such as Madder, Weld, Indigo, Logwood to name a few and whilst the synthetic acid dyes are easier and less time consuming to use, there is a beauty and depth of colour to natural dye that becomes more beautiful with age.
All our yarn is 100% natural fibre, including Wool, Alpaca, Mohair, Linen, Silk and they are either Welsh or UK yarns sourced from local farms or smallholdings local to us in Pembrokeshire or locations in the UK.
We only use yarn of the highest quality which we then hand dye and hand finish using water from springs at our Mill for the final wash and rinse.
We use only natural dyes in our process Indigo, Madder, Weld, etc and our fixing agent is Alum, a nontoxic water-soluble metallic salt that has many different uses in day-to-day life. Details of each yarn is provided on their individual description/
sales page on our website, see https://www.FelinFach.com/collections/hand-dyed-yarn-sc
