NORWELL, Mass. - Dec. 28, 2018 - PRLog -- Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, a South Shore practice specializing in unique programs that provide comprehensive treatment in orthopedic, spine and sports medicine specialties, is pleased to announce a new Pediatric Program at their Norwell office.

The program will work with patients from infants to older children. The program offers treatment for infant torticollis, which is relatively common in newborns. The infants are sometimes born with the condition and have a tilted head and/or trouble turning his or her neck. This can cause a flattening of the head from lying in one direction all the time. The program offers stretching techniques that parents can continue at home to help the infants grow and stretch properly.

In addition the program offers treatment for motor development delays in crawling and walking. Through the use of games, toys and balance work the patients are treated and parents are able to employ these techniques at home. The program will also provide orthopedic treatment of children with sport injuries.

Peak's Center Coordinator of Clinic Education Rachel Laufer, DPT, OCP and Clinic Manager Jackie DeFreitas will lead the program. Both have specific training in pediatric orthopedics and will work with the patients' pediatricians to asses and treat patients.

Laufer joined the Norwell clinic of Peak Physical Therapy & Sports in 2015. Recently designated an Orthopedic Certified Specialist, Laufer earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse in 2014. She also completed an Orthopedic Residency from Sacred Heart University in 2015.

DeFreitas graduated from Northeastern University with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2010. As the Clinic Manager for the Norwell office DeFreitas treats a wide range of specialty areas including orthopedics, sports rehab, spinal conditions, vestibular and post-concussion rehab, and TMD. She is also the Director of the Aquatics program. She is certified in the Graston Technique and likes to incorporate a combination of hands on techniques, core strengthening, and postural training to help patients maximize function.

"We have invested in specific training and specialized equipment in order to best treat our youngest patients," said Eric Edelman, PT, owner of Peak Physical Therapy & Sports Performance. "Rachel and Jackie are talented professionals who bring great care and treatment to our patients."
