COSTA MESA, Calif. - Dec. 22, 2018 - PRLog -- Mayor Katrina Foley bringing smiles to the children at the Boys & Girls Club of Central Orange CoastOn Thursday, December 20, 2018, kids of all ages gathered with big smiles at the Boys & Girls Club of Costa Mesa (which is part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast) as Mayor Katrina Foley and friends distributed the warm coats collected during Mayor Foley's 10th Annual Coat and Charity Drive.

On hand to assist Mayor Foley were city public safety personnel, members of the Charger Girls and recently elected state Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Laguna Beach) with her new staff member Chair of the Costa Mesa Parks and Recreation Commission Liz McNabb.

"Spreading holiday cheer on our 10th Annual Coat Drive distribution day was so much fun for the kids and all the adults helping out. I am so grateful to all those who donated hundreds of jackets and coats for these great kids," said Foley.  More than 190 new jackets and coats were distributed at the Boys & Girls Club and over 90 slightly used ones were donated to children at Share Ourselves (SOS) and the Lighthouse Church.

A question-and-answer session was held so the children could ask questions of the Charger Girls or members of both the Costa Mesa Police Department and Costa Mesa Fire Department and the elected officials.  Afterwards, all the children selected their favorite jacket or coat.

"This year's coat distribution was one of my favorites. The students asked great questions and we asked them to share a kind act they performed that day. Many shared kind and helpful tasks they performed for their parents or niceness toward their friends. Changed it up this year to let them select their jackets! What a joy!" said Foley.

Costa Mesa's first directly elected mayor, Foley is a strong advocate for improving the lives of families.  She served ten (10) years as a city council member and four (4) years on the Newport Mesa School Board. Her priorities for 2019 include eliminating homelessness and its impacts, reforming sober living home regulations, and economic development through tourism.
Foley is an attorney with her own law firm, The Foley Group, PLC.  Her staff members Michelle Mullen and Kalvin Alvarez were key in organizing the distribution of the coats along with volunteers.

Cottie Petrie-Norris (Laguna Beach) was sworn in as the Assemblymember for the 74th Assembly District on December 3, 2018. She is a Yale graduate in Economics and English with a business and finance background. The 74th Assembly District includes South Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Laguna Woods, Costa Mesa and most of Irvine. The Assemblywoman defeated two-term GOP Assemblyman Matthew Harper.

Based in Orange County, CA, Matt Fitt focuses primarily upon parties, portraits, and progressive politics. (949) 565-5997
