Aaron Schwartz, 'Miami Beach', 42"x30", Ink on Photos of various Miami locations
- Dec. 22, 2018
-- Aaron Schwartz is a South Florida native born and raised in Miami. As a location scout and artist in South Florida's film industry for over 20 years, it's safe to say Aaron has seen most of Miami from more angles than just about anyone. Aaron's medium can be best described as ink painting on photography, he has mastered his own groundbreaking technique of combining ink & sharpie markers, photographic prints, and chemical solvents that dissolve the photo emulsion.
What makes Aaron's work so unique is not only the unorthodox use of materials, but the idea of what a photograph can become. Look closely at the work and you'll find something you didn't see before. Each photo is its own painting, but combined with other photos, he is able to create a "mosaic" masterpiece. This process was first discovered by Aaron as a happy accident working with office supplies and photographs in 2001.
These "Mosaic" paintings take weeks, sometimes months to create from conception to completion. Each single photo can take hours to finish. Aaron's very early work was dominated by detailed drawings of portraits and still life drawings along with abstract expressionist oil paintings. But this new process of painting on photographs became his signature style ever since he discovered it in 2001 while working with photographs and chemicals for a project in the TV commercial field.
