French-Australian FEI 3* Endurance Rider Pushes Boundaries with Mongolian Endurance Race

BRISBANE, Australia - Dec. 12, 2018 - PRLog -- Camille Champange-Bargenquast moved to the Australian outback as a 20-year old with $100 to her name. It was the beginning of a great equestrian journey. She worked with the Australian Endurance Team traveling the world, and trained three-time Tom Quilty winner Brookleigh Excalibur. Since then she's competed around the world, including placing 7th in the Manila Tom Quilty with Shaah and 4th in the Kilkivan Tom Quilty with Maxi. In 2017, only two weeks before the inaugural Gobi Desert Cup she placed 10th at Walvis Bay, Namibia.

But a powerful moment occured in 2016 when she traveled to Mongolia to complete in a 1000 km horse ride where locals witnessed her love for the sport of endurance, her passion for horses and her intrepid spirit. As a result of this connection she founded The Gobi Desert Cup from her home in Australia's outback, on the Northern Territory border 250 kilometers from the nearest town.

The Gobi Desert Cup is a multistage endurance race on Mongolian horses, unlike any other endurance event. Combining the safety protocols and regulations of the Federacion Equestre Internacional (FEI) and Australian Endurance Riders Association (AERA) with semi-wild Mongolian horses and horsemanship, the event occurs over multiple terrains from dunes to rolling, verdant hills. Each of the potentially 24 international riders will ride six horses in six days, testing their horsemanship, their endurance and their sense of adventure. Each horse is chosen specifically for their physical strength and quiet temper and trained specially for the race by our team of Mongolian herdsmen and veterinarians.

"The Gobi Desert Cup makes me feel alive. It is tough, challenging, and hard in many ways; yet always seems to be worth it," said Camille Champagne.

Three weeks before the second annual Gobi Desert Cup, which took place August 22-August 28, 2018 Camille gave birth to a daughter. Still recovering from surgery, Camille was tested physically and mentally while in Mongolia but persevered due to her love of the event and the locals she calls family. As Camille says, "I think Mongolia makes us become a better version of ourselves through the horses and nomadic people. It is a privilege for us to call them our Gobi Desert Family. We need them more than they need us. They are a reminder of the best versions of ourselves."

We are now accepting limited applications for o\ur 2019 event 27 August - September 6, 2019.
