By: NextFifty Initiative

DENVER - Dec. 12, 2018 - PRLog -- NextFifty Initiative recently announced the recipients of funding for its third grant cycle. Grant applications from organizations throughout Colorado and the country were reviewed and resulted in funding for 31 mission-driven initiatives dedicated to serving the aging population. Since NextFifty Initiative began grantmaking in 2017, it has funded nearly 100 organizations. The complete list of third cycle grantees and their projects can be found here: https://www.next50initiative.org/news/nextfifty-initiative-announces-new-partners.

NextFifty Initiative funds organizations that are working to change the way society thinks and talks about aging. It seeks, funds and partners with forward-thinking organizations that positively impact the lives of aging populations. This cycle's projects include those that encourage multigenerational and intergenerational connectivity, support the unique needs of caregivers and reimagine vacant spaces to address needs of people with dementia.

As part of this grant cycle, NextFifty Initiative has awarded funding to the Colorado Village Collaborative. Building upon the successful model of its tiny homes project, the grant will support construction of housing for women over age 50 in The Women's Village of St. Andrews. This alternative solution to combat homelessness in Denver has been shown to improve lives by offering dignity and privacy, with tiny homes arranged in a community village setting providing access to social services, education and employment opportunities.

"This support from NextFifty initiative will be critical in continuing our innovative work to get people off the streets and into tiny home communities," said Cole Chandler, Facilitator for the Colorado Village Collaborative. "People between the ages of 55 and 64 are especially susceptible to homelessness, making up 17 percent of the entire homeless population in our city, and we are excited to be able to leverage these funds into housing and supportive services for this vulnerable population."

"At NextFifty Initiative, we are encouraged by the work of our grantees to enhance the capacities and lives of older adults. Their footprint extends throughout metro and rural Colorado and the country, representing the most promising ideas in the aging space," said Margaret Franckhauser, president and CEO of NextFifty Initiative. "We are enthusiastic about the diverse projects represented in this grant cycle. We offer our congratulations to the organizations selected and look forward to a strong partnership."

The next grant application cycle opens January 15, 2019 and closes February 28, 2019. Organizations that are working to improve the lives of the current aging population and who envision transforming the future of aging are encouraged to apply. Funding guidelines are available here: https://www.next50initiative.org/funding-guidelines.
