Follow on Google News | Certified Lead-Safe Contractor, Makes Portland, Oregon Home Safe from the Dangers of Lead PaintBy: Fine Finish Painting and Contracting LLC If your home was built before 1978, there is a good chance lead paint is present. Lead paint poses a threat to everyone, however, children are at the greatest risk. Per EPA requirements, only certified professionals trained in lead abatement are qualified to bid on projects built before 1978. The homeowner of this wonderful Portland OR home built in 1908 sought out to make sure his family his family was protected. After talking with several contractors, he decided on Fine Finish Painting and Contracting. The house had a mix of paint issues, from alligorating (cracking in the paint resembling the scales of an alligator.) on the old wood siding and millwork to chalking (powdery break down of paint) factory paint on the aluminum siding. Fine Finish Painting and Contracting, took their time to do it right. A combination of paint removal and encapsulation was completed following all EPA Guidelines. They spent 4 full days carefully scrubbing chalked surfaces, scraping and containing all paint chips. The wood surfaces were primed with peel bond which encapsulates any remaining cracking paint. Emulsa Bond was added as the first coat over the chalking paint on the aluminum siding. This is a paint additive manufactured by Flow that improves adhesion for compromised substrates. The home was completed using a total of seven different paints and is now safe from the dangers of lead contamination. Have questions about making your pre-1978 home or business lead safe?
