LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Dec. 11, 2018 - PRLog -- In celebration of America Recycles Day 2018, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful (GCB) and Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management teamed up to host a community recycling event at Coolray Field on November 17. The results are in and they are impressive.  Over the course of just three hours, about 140 volunteers served an estimated 4,000 residents in the recycling or safe disposal of difficult to recycle items that are not accepted curbside in Gwinnett.

"As a proud Keep America Beautiful affiliate, we always strive to serve as an example for other environmentally-focused nonprofits to follow," said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director for Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. "This year, we served nearly 900 more residents and processed more recyclables than last year's event. We're making an impact and touching more lives and that's an amazing feeling – particularly headed into the holidays. America Recycles Day is undoubtedly one of our favorite events of the season."

During this year's America Recycles Day event, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful and its partners at Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management Department recycled or disposed of:

·          More than 2,200 lbs. of clothes and shoes

·          484 ink cartridges

·          Over 6,500 gallons of paint

·          26,000 lbs. of tires

·          45,400 lbs. of electronics

The event also saw to the secure shredding of over 41,000 lbs. of sensitive documents. The paint that was collected will be used to help support Global Paint for Charity's mission to recycle leftover paint from businesses and residents, reprocess it and distribute it to vulnerable individuals and families to change lives and beautify underserved communities around the world, one gallon at a time. Some of the paint from America Recycles Day will be used to make murals in the Westside Atlanta Community in partnership with the WonderWood Foundation and the Atlanta Super Bowl Host Committee.

The next Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful event will be the annual Bring One for the Chipper "treecycling" event on January 26, 2019. Before then, GCB will be collecting live trees from local citizens at fire stations throughout the county from December 26, 2018 to January 20, 2019.
