Wichita North High School String Quartet to join the pros

WICHITA, Kan. - Dec. 9, 2018 - PRLog -- When the touring show Beatles vs. Stones – A Musical Showdown comes to the Orpheum Theatre on January 22, the Wichita North High School String Quartet will join the professional musicians on stage to lend some local talent to this homage to the British Invasion.

The show pits Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction against rival Brit boys Abbey Road in an all-out musical showdown for rock dominance. The string quartet will perform seven songs with the bands.

The show:  The two greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time face off in Beatles vs. Stones - A Musical Showdown. Taking the side of the Fab Four is Abbey Road, one of the nation's top Beatles tribute bands. With brilliant musicianship and authentic costumes and gear, Abbey Road plays beloved songs spanning the Beatles' career. They engage in a "showdown" of the hits with Stones tribute band Satisfaction - The International Rolling Stones Show, who offer a faithful rendition of the music and style of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and the bad boys of the British Invasion. The production includes multimedia, period costumes and vintage instruments. It has toured for years, with a critic for the Los Angeles Times at one point declaring: "this is the most unique tribute show in decades." The Wichita show is part of a 125 city tour of the U.S., Canada and Australia.

The string quartet: Wichita High North sophomores Jaylene Deleon, Elizabeth Treto and freshmen Emily Truong and Lyly Le will join the bands for the songs "Eleanor Rigby," "Yesterday," "A Day in the Life," "Hello Goodbye," "Hey Jude," "Gimme Shelter," and "Ruby Tuesday."

The quartet members belong to prestigious area ensembles, including the All-City Honors Orchestra, Wichita Youth Symphony, and the South Central Kansas Music Education Orchestra. Members have competed in Solo and Ensemble festivals, receiving superior ratings numerous times.

How the "Beatles" and "Stones" connection was started: The producers of Beatles vs. Stones approached North High School Director of Bands and Orchestra Stephanie Byers looking for a talented ensemble that could hold their own with a rock band in front of an audience. The show commonly hires a local quartet to augment the production while on tour.

The details: Two of the greatest bands of all time face off in a high-energy, adrenaline-pumping musical showdown. The Fab Four, represented by tribute band Abbey Road, will engage in a barrage of hits against premier Rolling Stones tribute band Satisfaction. Jaylene Deleon, 16, has been playing violin for five years. She is a member of both the All-City Honors Orchestra and the North High Orchestra.

"It's always been a dream of mine to play violin. I'm so passionate about music and it's a good way to express my feelings."

Jaylene is a member of Wichita North High's AVID program.

The sophomore plans to attend college and become a pediatrician while continuing to play music.

Elizabeth Treto, 15, has been playing violin for five years.

Elizabeth has participated in the Bows at the Barn summer program.

"I like orchestra because we get to work as a group, and seeing it come together as a whole after practicing individually is really cool."

The sophomore plans to study Criminology at Kansas State upon graduation.

Emily Truong, 14, has been playing viola for four years. Her family members also play instruments, so she had a desire to follow in their footsteps.

"I enjoy orchestra because the music can be challenging, but getting to play with other people and making the music sound good is rewarding."

Emily was a member of the Chamber Orchestra at Christa McAuliffe Academy and now plays with the North High Orchestra. She has competed in Solo and Ensemble festivals for three years.

She is a member of her school's varsity tennis team and track team. She participates in the school's BioMed program.

The freshman plans to go to medical school in Texas after college.

Lyly Le, 15, has been playing cello for four years. She has competed in Solo and Ensemble festivals where she has received superior ratings as both a group and ensemble.

"The cello is a very passionate instrument so I like that I can really connect and express my feelings with it."

Lyly is a member of the South Central Kansas Music Education Orchestra and The Wichita Youth Symphony where she participates in the Repertory Orchestra.

She is a member of Wichita North High School's tennis team, swim team and BioMed program.

The freshman aspires to attend the University of Missouri upon graduation and pursue a career in medicine.
