City Champs Kicks off Free Martial Arts Training Classes Saturday at UMOS Event in Milwaukee
Demonstration aims to get children interested in life-changing program
By: City Champs
The demonstration will be at the annual UMOS "Breakfast With Santa" event, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at South Division High School, 1515 W. Lapham Blvd. Instructors from Neutral Ground Martial Arts & Fitness will perform boxing and jiu jitsu, sports promoted by the City Champs program.
Neutral Ground, in partnership with City Champs, is offering free martial arts and boxing classes on eight consecutive Fridays, beginning Feb. 1, at the Sixteenth Street Community Center, 1032 S. Cesar Chavez Drive. Training will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. each day.
Saturday's event is the first opportunity for interested participants to register for the free classes. After the classes finish March 22, participants can apply for scholarships from City Champs to continue their training at local gyms. A thorough application and vetting process is involved.
"We're thrilled to partner with UMOS, Sixteenth Street Community Center and Neutral Ground to give kids the opportunity to experience the life-changing experience of boxing and martial arts training," said Jared Bell, founder of City Champs. "These sports instill discipline and valuable life skills. The entire community benefits from the positive instruction kids receive in these gyms."
Martial arts training is the bedrock of City Champs' mission. By paying for gym fees and equipment, City Champs seeks to keep children off the streets and in training centers, where they build character and learn vital life lessons in discipline, fitness, self-defense and respect.
