Introducing Separate Ways, Inc. a new Florida company focusing on Florida divorce documents
Under the motto "legal tech with a personal touch", this new company is out to provide a simple and very affordable solution for divorce in the state of Florida.
By: Daniel Baron and Ruth Tick
Ruth, who has been a document preparer for over 20 years, explains: "We have designed our business with our customers in mind, hoping to make a potentially difficult process as painless as possible. We know first hand how stressful and intimidating a divorce can be. And we also know that during this stressful time, divorcing couples don't need the added burden of paying high attorney's fees."
Separate Ways developed a simple three step process: (1) Customers identify the documents needed based on their situation; (2) Separate Ways will intake the customer's information either over the phone, or in a face to face meeting; (3) Separate Ways will deliver the documents to the customer ready for signing, notarizing, and filing. The process is explained in further detail on the Go Separate Ways website.
Separate Ways clearly informs customers that their services are not a substitute for an attorney. On the contrary, they are an alternative for people who may not be able to afford an attorney, who understand their rights and responsibilities and prefer a less adversarial approach. Read more about the Separate Ways philosophy.
Separate Ways can offer their services at a much lower rate than attorneys can because they do not offer legal advice or representation. The company argues that many consumers do not need legal advice, nor an attorney to go to court for them. They say that there are many situations in which a Document Preparer is just what consumers need; and if an attorney is required at any time, they encourage their customers to seek counsel.
Separate Ways is inviting all divorcing couples throughout Florida to use their services. Their business model is mostly virtual, but a trained representative will be assigned to each case, thus providing a personal touch. The company's document specialists are available to answer consumer questions along the way, things like procedure and what happens next, and provide ongoing encouragement throughout the process. At the same time, as the service is mostly virtual, customers benefit by not having to meet face to face unless they want to -- saving time by not having to travel to an office; and saving money by not having to take time off work for an intake appointment.
Daniel, who is a native Spanish speaker, also points out that if one or both divorcing spouses are more comfortable speaking Spanish, the company has resources to provide the necessary assistance.
As they toast to the launch, Ruth and Daniel encourage customers to let Separate Ways help them through a difficult time by making the divorce process as simple, inexpensive and as painless as possible.
Ruth and Daniel are certified members of the Florida Association of Legal Document Preparers. (FALDP). FALDP is a Florida wide voluntary trade association made up of nonlawyer document preparers who assist self-represented consumers by preparing documents for them. Learn more.
