MIAMI - Nov. 30, 2018 - PRLog -- Florida International University's Masters in Global Strategic Communications has a Creative Track in partnership with Miami Ad School that is unique in its focus to develop a global perspective in strategic communications through the development of trained art directors and copywriters.

Faculty and Program Director of the FIU GSC Creative Track, Grizelle De Les Reyes in collaboration with professionals from the Miami Ad School and ad industry legends held a portfolio review event on Saturday, October 20, 2018 aimed at giving professional advice and creative work feedback to FIU-Miami Ad Masters students. They had the unique opportunity to showcase their portfolios in progress and get feedback from working professionals on how are they selecting and presenting their work.

All students in the program were invited to participate even if they did not have a portfolio, as it was a multifaceted event with valuable career advice for those at any stage in their creative pursuits. This event was part of a series of initiatives FIU does to ensure their students job-ready and able to compete in the global marketplace.

The level of expertise and participation made this event tremendously worthwhile and memorable for the students, presenters, and professionals alike.

Tremendous Creative Value for Students

All students in the program were invited to participate even if they did not have a portfolio, as it was a multifaceted event with valuable career advice for those at any stage in their creative pursuits. This event was part of a series of initiatives FIU does to ensure their students job-ready and able to compete in the global marketplace.

Upcoming fall term graduate Abraham Escalona, currently interning at Replica Havas a national advertising and communications agency founded in Miami, Florida, said

"It's always refreshing to come to the Miami Ad School and rub shoulders with fellow creative nerds. This portfolio review was a great opportunity to do so and learn from advertising leaders like Jennifer Garcia, Copywriter at Optimum 7. I received great tips from everyone on how to improve my portfolio that will also help me to be a better copywriter and have a successful career in advertising." - Abraham Escalona, Florida International University student pursuing a B.S. in Communications, Advertising.

The Original Mad Men

Kevin Allen is a best-selling author and "one of the advertising industry's most accomplished growth professionals." He has held top positions with McCann Worldgroup, The Interpublic Group, among others. Kevin boasts a highly successful 30-year advertising career atop these global industry advertising giants with highlights like the "Priceless" campaign for MasterCard.

At the event, Kevin held nothing back in giving his personal experience and the lessons garnered there. He invited students to first ask questions and then structured his anecdotes around answering their every concern and confusion on topics like, how to get over creative blocks? How to not run out of creative ideas? Where to start? How to not burnout? What is really important to focus on? How to stand out?

Most importantly, Kevin reminded them that even if someone as unsure and unlikely to find himself in the advertising world like he was, was able to rise to the top, so can they. It takes tenacity, confidence, and a dedication to your craft.
