$20 Pet Adoptions at Kentucky Humane Society Dec. 1

Give a grateful shelter pet a home for the holidays for just $20 during BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters event

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Nov. 29, 2018 - PRLog -- This Saturday, Kentucky Humane Society adopters can give a grateful pet a home for the holidays and pay adoption fees of just $20 – thanks to BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the SheltersHoliday Hope event.

Responding to overcrowding in shelters across the country, BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) added an additional Empty the Shelters event in 2018. BPF's last Empty the Shelters event on October 6 helped find home for 3,290 pets, including 121 at the Kentucky Humane Society.

On Dec. 1, KHS is reducing adoption fees to $20, but the adoption process remains the same. Families will fill out an application and meet with an adoption counselor to ensure every pet finds the right home. All pets are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. Adopters are asked to bring or purchase a collar and leash for dogs and a crate for cats. Jefferson County residents also pay $10.50 for pet licensing; donations are gratefully accepted.

The KHS East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane, will be open 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and KHS adoption centers at Feeders Supply stores are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Adoptions will stop approximately one hour before the centers close. Cats at the Purrfect Day Café are not part of this special. The Steedly Drive location is no longer an adoption center and does not have pets for adoption.

"We encourage families to celebrate this season of giving by adopting their newest furry family member," said Robin Vincent, KHS Shelter Operations Director. "More than half of our adoptable pets come from overcrowded shelters throughout Kentucky, so adopting helps save more lives."

"Over the past six months, I have received urgent phone calls from shelter directors across the country saying that their shelters are more crowded than ever with fewer people coming to adopt," said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. "The problem is overwhelming.  Shelters are full of wonderful family pets who have been surrendered for a variety of reasons, through no fault of their own, and deserve to be in homes. In response, BPF is holding an additional Empty the Shelters event to give these cats and dogs a chance at holiday hope in a forever home."

During Empty the Shelters, BISSELL Pet Foundation is subsidizing adoption fees at 81 shelters and rescue organizations in 14 states. If you're not able to adopt, please consider supporting BISSELL Pet Foundation's lifesaving work at bissellpetfoundation.org/donate.
