For Literacy's Sake: Winter Wonderland's Holiday Soiree Brings in Spirit of the Season

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Nov. 29, 2018 - PRLog -- Raising funds  for literacy is on the agenda for Winter Wonderland's first "Holiday Soiree" on Tuesday the 4^th of December. The event will raise funds for two charities that support literacy – Clearwater's Community Learning Center and St. Petersburg's Bees Learning Inc. Winter Wonderland is produced by the Clearwater Community Volunteers and sponsored by the Church of Scientology Flag Service Organization.

The event will begin at 5:30 at Winter Wonderland, located on the corner of North Fort Harrison Ave. and Drew Street in downtown Clearwater. There is a $25 donation to attend and all funds will go to the benefitting charities.

Activities include visits with Santa, a petting zoo, a wine tasting with Mrs. Claus and heavy hors d'oeuvres created by the award-winning chefs of the Fort Harrison, the Church's international religious retreat. Offerings include mesquite chicken cheese quesadillas and grilled Italian sausages served on sourdough rolls. A variety of wines will also be on hand for guests to sample.

"The magic of the holiday season can get lost when you grow up," said Lisa Mansell of the Church of Scientology. "It can be a stressful time and we wanted to create an event to bring back some of the sparkle to the holidays, while also helping two worthwhile charities give the magic of learning to Pinellas County youth."

"Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard was a firm believer in the power of education and once wrote 'As long as children and young men and women find pleasure in study, they will continue studying throughout life – and upon that depends their happiness.' The two charities that we are supporting on December 4^th are giving a gift that lasts a lifetime."

Winter Wonderland, now in its 26^th year, has become a staple for Tampa Bay area families. This free community event runs from December 1^st through to the 22^nd of December. Visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food or an unwrapped toy to be distributed to area charities that help families in need. There are small costs for some activities, with those funds also going to area charities, providing holiday celebrations for families who may not otherwise have the wherewithal for this time of year.
