-- Peterborough and the Kawarthas Association of REALTORS® (PKAR) were shocked and disappointed to hear the news out of GM this week. This news is going to have a profound impact on not just Durham Region, but Peterborough County and all of Ontario. Many of our friends and family work at GM or a business that supports GM's manufacturing.
Nevertheless, we have time and are confident that advance planning can shield our community from many of the negative impacts of this closure while supporting efforts to diversify our economy. This requires a multi-faceted response, uniting all levels of business, municipal government and service organizations like PKAR.
"As community stakeholders we must identify the unique advantages of our community – such as Peterborough's natural beauty, our amenities, services, and infrastructure,"
Kristi Doyle, President PKAR. "We must aggressively market these assets to remain or become more attractive to business and residents."
By working together, we can ensure the continued success of our community, keeping our residents in good jobs, ensuring homeownership is affordable, all the while innovating for the future.
