Global Participatory Project Climate Change Theatre Action Returns in 2019By: The Arctic Cycle In January, 50 playwrights representing every continent as well as several Indigenous nations, will be commissioned to write five-minute plays highlighting the work of our various climate heroes, under the theme "Lighting the Way." In April, the resulting collection of plays will be freely available to international producing collaborators who will be invited to present an event in their community from September 15 - December 20, 2019, using one or several plays from the collection. To be the first to hear about the Call for Collaborators, sign up for The Arctic Cycle's mailing list. "I'm thrilled to continue to grow this initiative," Actors, producers, directors, avid arts supporters, or concerned community members – everyone can participate. For CCTA 2017, 140 events were presented in 23 countries reaching 12,000 people. "Anyone with Internet access in any corner of the globe is welcome, and for the third iteration in 2019, we're planning for our biggest, boldest, most impactful CCTA yet," said Julia Levine, artistic producer of The Arctic Cycle. About the Organizers The Arctic Cycle uses theatre to foster dialogue about our global climate crisis, create an empowering vision of the future, and inspire people to take action. Operating on the principle that complex problems must be addressed through collaborative efforts, we work with artists across disciplines and geographic borders, solicit input from earth and social scientists, and actively seek community and educational partners. The Center for Sustainable Practice in the Arts (CSPA) is a global think tank convening at the intersection of art and sustainable development. The CSPA views sustainability as the intersection of environmental balance, social equity, economic stability and a strengthened cultural infrastructure. Seeing itself as evolved out of the principles of the 1987 Brundtland Report and 1992 Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit, the CSPA aligns itself with the policies of Agenda 21 for Culture as a resource to artists and art organizations. Theatre Without Borders (TWB) is a grassroots network of international artists, theatres, and organizations that share a common interest in international exchange. TWB' community comprised of a wide-spectrum of individual volunteers around the world who meet irregularly and communicate primarily through the Internet and our website. Ideas are generated and then implemented by the group. We start with a need and respond to that need.
