UK packaging supplier Raepak has created a series of product innovations, which is set to reduce plastic waste on a global scale.
 
WYMONDHAM, U.K. - Nov. 27, 2018 - PRLog -- UK packaging supplier Raepak has created a series of product innovations, which is set to reduce plastic waste on a global scale. Three new products have been launched including the new dosing cap, 100% recyclable dispensing pumps and the 100% biopolymer plastic containers.

The introduction of the new dosing cap helps to reduce the packaging size and liquid contents. This is because a concertation of liquid can be used, rather than larger product volumes mixed with water. The idea behind the dosing cap is a complete reduction in energy used to make the overall product. This helps to lower the carbon footprint and reduce material resources.

"This has been a five-year project which should help brands focus on changing their packaging from the ground up. We've made it easy for them," said Raepak's Company director Andrew Paterson. "Raepak's dosing cap will significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste, and we look forward to giving our customers an innovation that has a positive environmental impact."

Environmental Breakthrough - 100% Recyclable Dispensing

Raepak has solved one of the plastic packaging's biggest environmental headaches. They have developed a new range of dispensing pumps (https://www.raepak.com/product-category/recyclable-dispen...). These new products are now 100% recyclable along with their adjoined plastic bottles.

There are billions of lotion and cream dispensing pumps used around the world every day. Until now, all standard, every day dispensing pumps have been sent for incineration or to the landfill after use. However, their negative impact can be bigger than just the pumps own environmental footprint. When consumers do not separate items such as soap pump dispensers from their bottles and place the entire pack into the recycling bin. This can result in a recyclable bottle being destroyed along with the pump. A somewhat frightening thought given 44% of the UK consumers (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/recycling-confusion-se...) believe dispensing pumps are recyclable already.

The introduction of a dispensing solution that can now be Widely Recyclable is so far ahead of the existing standards, Rapeak is now waiting for WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) and ORPL (On-Pack Recycling Label) to change their existing standards and guidelines to compensate for the new dispensing innovation.

Overall, the future of the dispensing pump looks excitably sustainable. The plastic used to make billions of pumps can be re-used in the recycling chain.

Biopolymer Containers

Biopolymer HDPE and PET materials can now be produced using ethanol which is extracted from sugarcane waste. The renewable sugarcane captures CO2 from the atmosphere, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Traditionally, ethanol is extracted from raw materials such as oil or natural gas. However, the switch to biopolymer containers has less of an impact on the environment.  Plastic containers made using this method are still widely recyclable and offer a sustainable packaging alternative.

Raepak now offers 100% biopolymer containers to all packaging market sectors. This helps with the global vision of the future; reduce plastic waste and be responsible for the environmental impact.
