GLOSSOP, U.K. - Nov. 27, 2018 - PRLog -- "'Nothing was ever proved' might stand some day as Rory Redman's epitaph." So says Cerebus C Gardog in this fast-moving tale of love and treachery set in England and Ruritania.

Ruritania, a country that roams Europe like a restless wanderer, is brewing a national crisis. Cut-throat revolutionaries, national security forces and Britain's secret service are all involved, and are all overtly or covertly at each other's throats. But they share a lone goal – each is determined to find Rory Redman and wipe him from the face of the earth.

A clue to the author behind this cut-throat drama pops up as his hero, cornered, faces the fact that his only expertise lies in logic, marathon running and Morris dancing. Mark Henderson, ex-medic and university lecturer, built a post-retirement career in North-West England as a collector and performer of local folktales.

Self-confessed lover of logic puzzles, Mark gives little away on the Morris dancing front, but says of National Cake Day in Ruritania, "I've had fun with the etymologies of names. Readers knowing their Greek mythology might recognise the gargoyle sisters' names as anagrams, and anyone familiar with popular English folklore will recognise the devices I've used elsewhere. But I don't expect my readers to know any of the sources I've exploited or the ways I've twisted them. A novel must stand alone to entertain and engage, not instruct – though I'm happy to admit that some of the entertainment for me has been in blowing academic raspberries at instruction."

Dan Grubb, CEO of East Yorkshire publishing house, Fantastic Books Publishing, says, "As publisher of one of Mark's books of performance pieces, we were delighted when he approached us with his novel. The quality is outstanding. We've entered National Cake Day in Ruritania for the Republic of Consciousness prize, the first entry from Fantastic Books for this prestigious award."

National Cake Day in Ruritania is launched on November 26th which is the world's official National Cake Day.
