Salton Sea 660-Mile X-Treme Motor-Scooter Endurance Record
By: Motor-Scooter International
Motor-Scooter International's 2018 Veteran's Day 660-Mile X-Treme Motor-Scooter Endurance Road Race started and finished from The Brawley Inn. The race consisted of five long counter-clockwise laps around the Salton Sea, principally on Highways #111 and #86, passing through the towns of Brawley, Calipatria, Niland, Mecca and Westmorland. Observance of speed limits was optional, and refueling was at the rider's discretion. https://www.meetup.com/
The race was held to mirror the famed Lake Erie Loop, a 650-mile non-stop race around Lake Erie on motorcycles (and scooters) up to 250cc, and establish left-coast speed-time-distance records. www.lakeerieloop.org.
MSI pro racer Alan Spears won 1st Place Overall, and 1st place in the Light-Weight Class 49cc to 299cc riding his Gilera 2t "FXR" 175cc Malossi Runner, establishing the following record:
Distance: 660-Miles (1062.16 km)
Time: 12 hrs. 15 min.
Average Speed: 86.70 kmh (53.877 mph)
Racing conditions included heavy holiday traffic, additional traffic from the "Cattle Call" national rodeo in Brawley, three fuel stops per lap, and the Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway #111.
MSI has a full calendar of events scheduled in 2019 starting with the Route "66" 400-Mile X-Treme Endurance Motor-Scooter Road Race on Sunday, April 21st 2019, starting and finishing in Kingman, AZ. https://www.meetup.com/
