STROUD, U.K. - Nov. 23, 2018 - PRLog -- The pupils from Thrupp School, The Shrubberies School and Wycliffe Preparatory School all based in Stroud, Gloucestershire were selected as finalists in a mascot competition which ran in conjunction with this year's Harvest Campaign.

The competition invited children from across the district to design a suitable mascot for the Foodbank. A little uncertain about how many entries they would receive, the Foodbank team were delighted to see so many inventive ideas, including an elephant who wanted to make sure 'no one was forgotten' because an elephant never forgets.

Emma Greenwood of Thrupp School set her class the task as homework and their entries displayed great imagination and incorporated themes they have been studying in lessons such as healthy eating, alliteration and also the story of the Good Samaritan.

The level of entry was so high that instead of choosing one lone mascot as a caped crusader, it was decided that the mascots formed a supergroup - a Justice League to fight food hunger.

This better represents the ethos of the Foodbank who can't do their work alone but with the help of over 150 volunteers and the generosity of the public, they distributed over 50 tonnes of food last year to families in the Stroud District.

The finalists were invited to spend an hour at the Stroud District Foodbank warehouse to talk about their designs, learn about the mission of the Foodbank and help out sorting food donations.

"I was really keen to do something to help," said six-year-old Ava Wilkins from Wycliffe Preparatory School.

Volunteers Kay Goff and Maggie Sweeting helped the children sort the food. Reece, Riley and Spencer from The Shrubberies School thought it was great fun and were not sad to have missed their swimming lesson make the visit.

The mascot competition entries also impressed the team at Stroud based production company MMOUK who have animated the finalist's drawings and brought them to life in a short film.

Mike Bale of MMOUK, filmmaker Robyn Peté and photographer Carl Hewlett of Stand Out Studio captured the day's proceedings and will make the film available for the Foodbank to distribute.

Copies of the mascot entries will be shown at the Tesco in-store collection event at the Stroud and Cam branches on Thursday 29th November to Saturday 1st December.
