Vision Literacy is a ProLiteracy Global Literacy Hero Winner

The ProLiteracy Hero Contest recognized and awarded the heroes in the adult basic education field for raising awareness of the adult literacy crisis.
 
MILPITAS, Calif. - Nov. 20, 2018 - PRLog -- Vision Literacy, a leading 501(c)(3) award-winning nonprofit literacy organization in Silicon Valley, is proud to announce that they won second place in the "Proliteracy Global Literacy Hero Contest" conducted by ProLiteracy Worldwide, an international nonprofit organization based in Syracuse, N.Y.
A panel of ProLiteracy judges chose ten finalists. Proliteracy includes a network of one thousand US literacy providers. The ten finalist were posted on the ProLiteracy website and opened up to a public vote. Each week, the finalists were narrowed down and in the last week, Vision Literacy was voted as a ProLiteracy Hero winner.

Pat Lawson-North, Executive Director said, "We are thankful to receive the support of all the voters who made it possible for Vision Literacy's win in the ProLiteracy Hero Contest. Vision Literacy with the support of our partners, instructors and donors has been transforming the lives of adults with low literacy skills in the Bay Area for over three decades".

According to the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute of Literacy, 36 million adults in the U.S. can't read. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), Children whose parents have low literacy levels have a 72 percent chance of being at the lowest reading levels themselves. These children are more likely to get poor grades, display behavioral problems, have high absentee rates, repeat school years, or drop out.
