19 years old Jivraj Pradhan is very excited to go to Africa and begin a new life. He gets on his horse carriage with his wife Maniben Nagji Mitha and his 3 children, Sikina, Sherbanu and Habib. His parents and other family members follow in a separate horse carriage and they head to the port of mombay (Bombay)

The ship has large sails, and so much hustle bustle as goods are loaded and people boarding. The port is full of Horse carriages and Ox Carts dropping of passengers and exports. Jivraj says an emotional goodbye to his family and parents and the group of relatives who came to see him off. His luggages are 3 metal cses that are loaded and he boards and waves good bye..

Rough seas and a very rough travel on the seas forces the ship to dock at one of the Arabian ports where they stay for a few days. Jivraj purchases some more goods for his trading and gets that loaded too.. the journey continues..

Welcome to Africa

After months of the rough voyage, the ship docks at Mombasa, Kenya. Jivraj meets his host Nazarali Juma. All eager and excited Jivraj meets with Alidina Visram for the first time at Kuze Jamatkhana. The Jamatkhana was like a castle built by the Agakhan in a colonial era surrounded by small alleys full of small households. The Agakhan had made sure the Ismailis felt a sense of belonging as they arrived in Africa by providing a gigantic structure as a place of worship and social life, that showed a strong presence of the community in Mombasa..

This 426-page paperback novel is a fictional account based on a true story of the Author's Grandfather.

19 years old Jivraj Pradhan ventures into wild Africa in 1897 when the European countries were scrambling to get a piece of Africa. The British eventually ruled over the area while life struggles of challenges and survival continued for Jivraj. The man eating lions of Tsavo and the hostile tribes and the slave traders made life unpredictable for the local African population.
