-- The Director of the Festival and teacher by profession, Monica Valdes is no stranger to festivals. She has served as a board member at different festivals and had also founded the Florida Documentary Film Festival Series and the DocMiami International Film Festival. When asked about this new project she noted, "It is extremely fun to take the entire concept of a professional international film festival and put it all in the hands of students." The festival includes a three-tier judging system whereby students, faculty and film professionals judge entries. Early bird entries from all over the world have already been received. Students of all ages may enter and film professionals who produce educational content films are also welcome.
As a festival which offers a "grand, educational, entertainment experience", it is therefore fitting that the official poster, logo and website be designed by students. The poster was designed by 16 year old D.A.S.H. student, Chelsea Abella; the official logo designed by 13 year old, Shaele Ortega and the digital website banner, by 14 year old Camila Diaz both of West Miami Middle School. The unveiling will also include guest host, Marilyn Rosales, Miss Miami Teen of the National American Miss Pageant.
FIU After-School All-Stars and Florida International University are sponsoring the private unveiling. Senior Program Director Richard McKinley, said "FIU After-School All-Stars supports the Film Festival because it gives students the opportunity to learn more about the film industry and allows them to showcase their creativity."
