BEDMINSTER, N.J. - Nov. 9, 2018 - PRLog -- The Center for Contemporary Art's 2018 International Juried Exhibition is on view through December 22, 2018.

Juror Dr. Midori Yoshimoto selected 40 pieces from 915 entries submitted by 323 artists from across the U.S. and Canada, and as far away as Italy, France, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. The exhibition consists of work in a broad range of subject matter and media.

First Prize: Jeremy Underwood (Kansas City, MO)
Second Prize: Tae Eun Ahn (Seoul, South Korea)
Third Prize: Laura Ahola-Young (Pocatello, ID)

Artists Tae Eun Ahn (Seoul, South Korea) and Auguste Elder (Brooklyn, NY) were awarded 2019 solo exhibitions at The Center for Contemporary Art by The Center's Exhibitions Committee.

New Jersey artists selected for the exhibition are: Ry An (Blairstown), Charline Browne (Bayonne), Reyna Carretta (Bridgewater), Thomas Dackow (Summit), Jada Fabrizio (Weehawken), Jessica Graff (Long Valley), Rachel Marcotte (Fairview), Alpana Mittal (Bayonne), Adam Pitt (Tenafly), Susan Spencer Reckford (Short Hills), Theda Sandiford (Union City), Mayumi Sarai (Bayonne), Michael Scherfen (Atlantic Highlands), Katie Truk (Hamilton Square), Louise Wheeler and Gary Wiesner (Hillsborough).

Juror, Dr. Midori Yoshimoto, explains the selection process in her juror statement.  "It was not an easy task to select forty works out of more than nine hundred submissions, but after reviewing the images several times, I came to settle on artworks which are visually arresting, intriguing, and well composed/constructed. The top prize winner, Jeremy Underwood, combines both photography and sculpture. He builds site-specific sculptures using debris, such as plastic bottles, found on the beaches and waterways of Houston, to address the issues of pollution. The second prize winner, Tae Eun Ahn, expresses various human conditions through bodily performance and interacting with clay. The third prize winner is Laura Ahola-Young, who uses mixed media on paper to reflect on environmental and biological concerns.

Dr. Midori Yoshimoto received her Ph.D. in art history from Rutgers University in 2002 and is currently an Associate Professor and gallery director at New Jersey City University.
