Meals on Wheels South Florida Celebrates 30th Annual Thanksgiving Home Meal Delivery Program
More than 12,000 hot meals delivered to home-bound seniors on Thanksgiving Day since the program's inception.
Each holiday season, Meals on Wheels South Florida aims to ensure their clients enjoy the holidays as much as possible. In addition to the meals they already receive, Meals on Wheels South Florida staff and volunteers visit clients on Thanksgiving morning and present them with a hot turkey meal with all the trimmings, homemade placemats and flowers. These meals are delivered to 600 clients who are home alone and without family to visit them for Thanksgiving.
Every year, assistance is requested from the community to donate placemats or flowers as well as help deliver to the clients. The Thanksgiving meal box includes a roasted turkey, vegetables, mashed potatoes, rolls, milk and pumpkin pie. Volunteers must be 18 years of age and older with a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
"Meals on Wheels South Florida is powered every day by staff and volunteers standing up to lend a caring hand to their aging neighbors," said Mark Adler, Executive Director for Meals on Wheels South Florida. "During the holidays we want our clients to remember that they are not alone and that we are here to provide them with more than a meal."
Members of the community can get involved with the Thanksgiving Home Meal Delivery Program by donating their time to deliver meals or making financial gifts. Those wishing to donate or volunteer for this program can call 954.714.6924 or email email@example.com.
