ALBURY, Australia - Nov. 4, 2018 - PRLog -- Trauma will affect 1 in 5 Australians throughout your life. Trauma comes in many shapes and sizes. Growth from Post-Traumatic events is extremely important.

If you have recently seen the redress scheme in Australia you will be aware that there is an increasing focusing on trauma in our society. If you work in healthcare to any capacity there is no doubt you will of heard of 'trauma informed practice and care' as well as contacted clients who have experienced trauma. Because rural areas such as Albury, Wodonga, Wangaratta and Wagga have access to resources many often suffer in silence.

Trauma comes in many shapes and forms and effects each person differently. From PTSD to Borderline Personality Disorder there a wide array of trauma conditions. Though the focus on trauma is about getting better or many are under the idea we need to 'talk about it' to get better (which isn't always true) many never get therapy and still live happy successful lives.

Post-Traumatic Growth doesn't get enough attention. Here is a simple way how to use it:

Post traumatic growth is the recovery after the events of a traumatic incident. Many trauma survivors never seek or get therapy, such as in the Riverina due to rural isolation and still lead good lives. Though many may also suffer the aftermath that trauma can create, such as flashbacks, nightmares amongst other things.

This is why Post-Traumatic Growth can be such a powerful tool, whether you've been through trauma yourself or know someone who has. I am going to outline a simple yet effective tool to start the journey for post trauma recovery and growth, you can use yourself or with others without going into traumatic events.

Grab a pen and paper and then:

Step 1: Despite what has happened, take a few moments to think about 3 qualities that you like about yourself that have got you to where you are today. Some of these could be being strong, resilient or a fighter. Take some time to really find the 3 that site with you and write them down.

Step 2: Once you have these 3 qualities written down, take some time to reflect when you have had to use them and when they have been useful for you. Try to think of times that are stressful but not threatening, such as being strong in saying no to something. Jot these down as dot points.

Step 3: Take some time now to think about your future and what you want. This doesn't need to be planned out to a T, just an idea. Start to think how these 3 things may be useful to get you to your future goal and achieve what you want. Take a note of these.

Step 4: By now you should have a decent list coming together. This final step, take everything into consideration and take same time to just be thankful for these qualities you have and how they have, and will continue to help you. Even saying thank you to yourself in a kind way.

This technique can be built upon for moving forward for change as well as having a thankfulness for the past and the now. It is not to replace therapy or professional help but a tool that can be used moment to moment. You can also greatly continue and expand upon this technique.
