DUXBURY, Mass. - Oct. 30, 2018 - PRLog -- Acella Construction, long committed to building better buildings, relationships and communities, recently joined South Shore Habitat for Humanity for a rewarding day of building at Habitat's current site in Duxbury.  Acella's employees participated in Habitat's team build program, where volunteers from all walks of life come together to support safe, affordable homes for economically disadvantaged families.

South Shore Habitat for Humanity (sshabitat.org) which has delivered quality housing in partnership with families in need for over 32 years,  invites groups of all kinds – companies, faith groups and neighbors - to lend their unique talent in opening doors for struggling families in their own community.  Habitat has welcomed over 100 volunteers to their latest project, which consists of six townhomes on the newly named Feinberg Bog Road in Duxbury.

The townhomes are located on a parcel off Temple Street, which was formerly part of Camp Wing.  The ambitious project, a partnership between SSHH and the Town of Duxbury's Affordable Housing Trust, will offer three townhomes to low-income households and three to moderate-income households.

In South Shore Habitat, Acella President Dave Dirubbo found a perfect partner to support one of the company's guiding principles. "We believe in reinvesting in our communities, which is exactly what Habitat for Humanity does every day," said Dave.  "This was an opportunity to lend our expertise to make a difference in the community where our employees work and live."

Volunteers can join Habitat for a day of building on each of their project sites. There are also opportunities for families, youth groups, civic groups or individuals to participate as lunch providers for the construction crew. Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Evy Nelson at enelson@sshabitat.org or call 781-337-7744 ext. 15.

About South Shore Habitat for Humanity

The Mission of South Shore Habitat for Humanity is to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter by partnering with families in need of affordable housing.  Families put in "sweat equity hours" alongside local volunteers on the building of their home and purchase the home with a 30-year, affordable mortgage. Homes do have a deed restriction that maintains the affordability status of each home in perpetuity. Habitat Family Partners are selected through a competitive underwriting process based on their ability to pay, willingness to partner, and their need for adequate housing. South Shore Habitat for Humanity offers a "hand-up, not a hand-out," said Martine Taylor. "Habitat does not build these homes, the local communities do. We are so very grateful to all of our donors and supporters for their contributions and for making homeownership a reality for these families.

The organization's headquarters are located at 20 Mathewson Drive in Weymouth, MA but they serve 35 cities and towns south and southwest of Boston. To date, South Shore Habitat for Humanity has delivered 58 homes to local families on the South Shore. Currently, the organization has a strategic plan to build twelve homes by 2020, which is on pace to deliver another 58 homes in a little less than a decade. "The need for housing is critical. Together with municipalities, we can be a solution to the affordable housing crisis here on the South Shore," said Martine.
